This is an intensive workshop directed to biologists, medical doctors, psychologists, biotechnologists and, in general, to anyone interested in hands-on training on the fundaments and practical applications of Stereology. The students will learn about how to sample and measure bias-free on 3D structures, mostly working on 2D images. Special topics with practical interest are the principle of Cavalieri, the fractionator, the disector, the nucleator, the rotator, and several estimators of length and surface area. A tutorial will also be given of the capabilities of an integral stereology equipment. The students are encouraged to present their own projects/ideas on an individual basis at the start, and then to discuss extensively on them at the closing session of the course, with the main objective of improving on the sampling design and measuring protocols, and solving the obstacles presented by adequately preparing the material to be studied. Lectures are given in Spanish, Q/As, discussions and debates will be held indistinctly in Spanish or English.
